Australian Kiteboarding School was born in June, 2000 in Sydney, N.S.W. and at that time was so that it's founder Darren Marshall, could go kiteboarding everyday without the tiresome interruptions of a full time job!  It was early times and there were no kiteboarders, no shops retailing kites, no schools or instructors, even kites were hard to find, let alone buy, and the stoke was a pure as it ever was.  Darren felt a need for quality tuition even back then and registered the business and began teaching.

Back in 2000, AKS was a one man business running out of the back of a Ford Falcon station wagon.  We still have the wagon (wifes car now), but everything else has changed.  We started teaching on Wipika 2-line "classic" kites and we had three of them to select from and a single board.  My how times have changed ........

Fast forward to the present.  AKS has been trading for more than 10 years and has become one of the most successful and best schools in the country and is one of the few still under original ownership.

With the growth of the sport, Darren saw a need to grow the school and to take a leadership position within the teaching industry.  Not being satisfied to just be like the 'others', we wanted to be the best and most professional school in the country. To do this we have grown to employ up to 6 seasonal full time staff working both on the beach and behind the scenes. Our success is in no small part, due to our dedicated and professional staff.

Our School Center

For better organisation, we custom built a beach trailer to our exact needs and fill it each season with the latest model kites, boards, harnesses and safety equipment.  The trailer allows us to keep our boat and safety gear close, as well as offer a safe and secure place for our customers things whilst lessons are in progress, provide cool drinks and do repairs on the beach in our maintenance section.  We currently carry more than 20 kites in our school and more than a dozen boards to make sure we have exactly what we need for all conditions and to suit all riders.

Headzone Radio Coaching System

As part of our ongoing strive to be the best, we introduced Headzone Coaching System in 2006, a helmet mounted radio system allowing our instructors to keep constant contact with our customers whilst under our tuition and care.

Just a few of our many radio helmets
We are able to communicate with up to 14 different students wearing our helmets either simultaneously or individually depending upon our requirements.  Our ability to offer key instruction, at any time, whilst the riders and students are anywhere within a 2km radius allows us to utilize 100% of the lesson time to teach, not just whilst in earshot like many other schools.

Again this year we have replaced ALL our equipment for the upcoming season so that we continue to provide the latest in safety, ease of use and value to our customers.

Our staff are some of the most dedicated professional instructors in Australia and include Darren himself, (a multi championship winning rider) and one of Australias most experienced and knowledgeable instructors and instructor trainer (IKO Examiner).  Ed Teo our school manager whom has personally taught more than 1000 hours and mostly for AKS.

Our school has been rapidly evolving for the last four years and implements improvements at every opportunity to improve our service and our professionalism.  We strive to remain Australia's leading kiteboarding school.

To see what's new, contact us and see what we can offer.

Good winds,

AKS Management
