Crossed lines whilst riding PDF Print Email

Crossed lines whilst riding can be a catastrophe or a minor headache depending upon the severity of the crash. Generally if a kite flies through your lines it is trouble and you should quickly make a decision as to whether to immediately pull the quick release on the kite or to try and manage the kites whilst flying, and fly them back out again. A cool head and careful control is what is needed from both riders if you wish to fly them out and it can only be done if both riders share the same outcome. The trick is for both riders not to panic but cooly decide on a course of action. If one rider "pulls the pin" then you have no option and you should both pull the pin and sort the mess out on the beach.

The other alternative is the rider whose kite is the one whose kite has been flown through can opt to fly his kite down to the edge of the wind window and the other rider once the kite is down can body drag through and over the lines of the wingtip that is down on the water. Remember that this is risky and both riders should be ready to pull their quick releases should anything go wrong.

Our recommendation is that beginner riders should both pull the pin and disable the power from both kites then either sort it out in the water, re-launch and sail away or perform a self rescue. Err on the side of caution at all times.
