Changing your fins can dramatically change the performance characteristics of the board you are riding. Fins are only small on twin tip boards and of course larger on surf or directional boards but they play a major role in the feel and ride of your board. Twin tip fins come in all shapes and sizes and all have slightly different ride characteristics. Smaller fins produce a "looser" feel whilst larger fins in general produce a more "rigid, locked in" feel. Depending upon your requirements for the style of riding you may find changing fins around can change the board into a more capable machine to ride. Try bigger fins for more choppy conditions or more grip for big boosting and perhaps try smaller fins for a looser more fun ride in flat water when freestyling. Some fins are fast and some are slower so maybe even swap fins with a friend to try and see if it makes a difference that you like on your board. A set of spare fins are a lot cheaper than buying a new board when perhaps the only thing wrong with the old board are the fins, not all production boards ship with great fins so it is worth checking it out. Performance tyres on a car make a difference to handling, so do performance fins on boards!
