Front Roll
Front Rolls are slightly harder than back rolls. The Front roll is performed by sending the kite back to initiate a small controlled jump, and throwing the body forward into a rotation. It is important that you can jump with the kite without looking at it whilst you are in the air, and instead, jump more by “feel”. Simple steps to successful front rolls are; Start off hooked in to the harness, with a medium forward speed and good controlled power. Your stance should be general riding posture at approximately 60 degrees lean to the water. Selecting a nice small piece of chop will make the move easier to initiate. Start turning the kite back with some back hand pressure as per a normal jump, time the wave with your lift off from the water, but just before you leave the water, initiate a board stall or pop like movement, where you throw your body weight forward. At the same time, turn your head back to look under your back armpit, this will initiate the rotation of your body and will help you spot your landing before you complete your rotation. Speed or slow your body rotation my drawing your knees up and tucking more to rotate faster and extending to slow rotation. Turn the kite forward again when you feel you have reached the apex of the jump. This will soften the landing and give you power in the direction of travel. It is important to spot your landing so you can alter your rotation speed to adjust to the height and distance before you line up the landing. Bend your knees, absorb the landing and ride away smiling! are slightly harder than back rolls.
