Great Raley
A "really good" Raley is always performed unhooked. You cannot perform a raley whilst hooked in, as it is impossible to get the board above your head due to the angle the bar and lines take to the kite. Firstly you need plenty of speed, so before you unhook, de-power your trim strap to make up for the difference of having no sheeting with the trim (chicken) loop. Unhook!, gain heaps of speed across the wind, bring your kite low (10 o'clock or 2 o'clock) edge hard, and when ready, bear off the wind (downwind) just momentarily and then snap the board hard up into the wind allowing it to cut upwind of your body very quickly. The inertia of board and your lower body swinging upwind away from your kite will pendulum your lower body out horizontally and if snapped hard enough with enough speed, should throw your legs and board up above your head. When you get it right, you will stretch every ab and pectoral muscle seriously and you will feel it. Once you are up horizontally, pull down on the bar with your pectoral muscles and swing the board back below your body to make the landing. Ride away and hook back in. I find I get best results when I am slightly out of control with the speed before I rail up into the wind. It's a hard and fast move if done correctly and there should be NO LIFT from the kite, it is purely inertia and pendulum effect.
