Tip #27 How to jump a "Bow" or S.L.E. kite |

To jump a "bow" style kite is similar but not the same as a "C" kite. In a "C" kite the aim is to bring the kite back past 12 o'clock to get a good jump, on a "Bow" you do not come back past 12 o'clock. With plenty of speed and kiting slightly upwind, pick a nice little ramp or piece of chop and time it so that you turn your kite back to start the jump as you hit the ramp. Do not turn the kite aggressively! Turn it so it faces slightly against the wind and slightly back in the direction from which you came to initiate the jump and then sheet in and hold the kite pointing into the wind. If it goes back past 12 you will still go up, but you will wash off speed and stall the kite and lose hangtime and height. Your best jumps will be from a kite which is positioned into the wind and at 12 o'clock above you. My best jumps and hangtime have been off waves in the surf, a good ramp helps a bit. Have fun.
