Tip #18 The Flying Squirrel PDF Print E-mail
Flying Squirrel
Flying Squirrel
The Flying Squirrel is one of the least seen or practiced jumping tricks because it is quite difficult to land smoothly. Done properly it is still a crowd favourite and is merely a more difficult derivative of the deadman. Follow all the tips to pull a huge deadman but instead of throwing your board up against the lines, once you are entirely inverted, bend your knees to allow the board to drop down against your butt, at the same time, throw your arms back behind you to grab the heel rail of the board with both hands. Hold this position as long as you can and arch your neck to look down at the water for full effect. Revert out of this trick and land as you would a deadman. This trick requires good height and a good sense of perspective so start off without throwing your head back to begin with and then step it up as you gain confidence.
