Land kiting places different requirements on kites, firstly, they don't need to float so you can do away with heavy bladders and struts. With the kites not requiring inflated sections, they can be made more efficient by having twin skins. Per square meter, a foil kite produces far more power than it's inflateable cousin and in general is easier to fly and better behaved than an inflateable kite. With their light weight and non rigid form, they tend to be better at handling impact and abrasion which makes them far more suited to land applications. Other benefits are never having to take your lines off the kite which means instant setup and no pumping means immediate launch without tangles. They also pack down to around a 1/4 of the weight and half of the size of an inflateable kite. Rearward relaunch is also easy with a foil kite . Land kiting takes on the forms of Mountain boarding (rough terrain skateboard) which is similar in nature to kite surfing, only on land, Kite buggying which is riding in a three wheeled buggy 2 inches off the ground at harrowing speeds, and snow kiting with either skis or snowboard.
